Our offerings from Sept. 24, 2005 are listed below. For the first time at a Friends of Hearst Castle event anyone could bid for items without actually attending the event by using our Absentee Bidding Program!

Friends of Hearst Castle will accommodate purchasers within reason
and under the conditions set by the donors. Purchasers agree to abide by any
restrictions and terms established by the donors, California State Parks
and Friends of Hearst Castle

1. Magnum of Tolosa Wine
and Stemware

Magnum of 2003 Estate Grown Tolosa Chardonnay, signed by the winemaker and owners of Tolosa. Awarded "Editor's Choice" by Wine Enthusiast with a score of 92, this beautiful Chardonnay is laced with flavors of Asian pear, nectarine and honey. This item is offered with a pair of Castle-inspired flutes with solid bronze stems topped by 24% European leaded crystal.

at HP Pavilion

Experience an exciting San Jose Sharks NHL hockey game in style at the HP Pavilion in San Jose. The private-access penthouse, equipped with swivel chairs, a small living room, television, telephone, refrigerator, and icemaker accommodates twelve people and comes with a catered food and beverage package and parking passes.

6. Hearst Castle
Accessories Package

Refectory-inspired candlesticks, candle snuffer and letter opener plus Front- and Back-Door Castle Key wine openers with matching wine stoppers. The letter opener design is from the intricate Refectory scrollwork while the candlesticks and matching snuffer are based on the magnificent silver candlesticks on display there. The keys are exact replicas and actually work to open the locks! Inside each is a corkscrew, and matching wine stoppers complement the set.

7. Lakers VIP Package
Two lucky people will be the special guests of Los Angeles Times sports columnist Larry Stewart for a Los Angeles Lakers home game. If you wish, the evening will start with dinner in the Arena Club, where you will be joined by former Lakers coach and Boston Celtic Bill Sharman, one of only three men in the Basketball Hall of Fame as both a coach and player. You will sit in Bill Sharman's seats, located in the 11th row, center court. At halftime, visit owner Jerry Buss' private bar and the Chairman's Room, where all the celebrities hang out. You will visit the Chairman's Room after the game as well. Larry, who has been going to Lakers games since 1970, will make every effort to make this night special, introducing you to as many people as possible.

Hearst and Castle architect Julia Morgan, these delightful ornaments made by the Museum’s Historic Services staff are exact replicas of the medallions that grace the gardens’ balustrades. Exclusively available at Enchanted Evening, they will be a wonderful addition to your own Castle.

9. Living History
Fashion Party

Visit the past in style! Up to four people will spend an afternoon or morning with the Living History staff, who will share their knowledge of fashion and social customs of the 1920s and 30s. You and your friends will explore the collection of vintage attire and dress up in ensembles representative of the Castle’s heyday. Participants will have a photograph taken by Hearst Castle photographer Victoria Garagliano and receive the original digital image. Includes lunch below Casa del Sol.

Tile Set

A beautiful set of tiles made by the Castle’s Historic Services Staff and Deer Creek Pottery are the exact replicas of tiles placed on the Main Terrace in front of Casa Grande and found in stair risers all around the gardens. These tiles, including the newest Hearst Castle inspired tile design, will set off any patio, yard or fountain with a Mediterranean flair!

11. Fox Sports NFL
Sunday Package

Up to four lucky football fans will visit the Fox studio on the Twentieth Century Fox lot in Burbank, CA on an NFL Sunday. Meet the cast from Fox's award-winning NFL pre-game show -- Terry Bradshaw, Jimmy Johnson, Howie Long and James Brown -- and see how they put the show on the air. You'll be the special guests of Los Angeles Times sports columnist Larry Stewart and visit the famous Avocado Room -- it's what Fox calls its Green Room. There are enough TV monitors on one wall to watch every game that is going on, with plenty of food and drink available.

13. Tennis at the Castle
with Lunch

Last offered in 2000, this is your opportunity to play on the same courts used by the likes of Charlie Chaplin, tennis legends Alice Marble and Bill Tilden, and, very often, W. R., himself! Singles or doubles play for up to eight people with catered refreshments provided by Friends of Hearst Castle.

This piece is a replica of the Black Vase Lamp found in the Sitting Room of Casa del Sol. The original lamp was adapted from a Chinese black-mirror porcelain vase from the K’ang Hsi period (1662-1722).

15. Holiday Feast with Hearst Experience
A priceless privilege will be yours with the purchase of this Holiday Feast package! Includes two tickets to FHC's spectacular holiday special event. You will descend from Mr. Hearst's private elevator to make your appearance in the Assembly Room and call your guests to dinner in the Refectory for a splendid evening of festive music, delicious cuisine presented by Chef Jose Dahan, and spectacular holiday decorations. Exact replica, in faux cast stone, of the 16th Century Italian marble lion on display in the Visitor Center Exhibit Hall. The Castle's Historic Restoration staff carries on the tradition of Hearst-era craftsmen with this impressive re-creation. This lion, available exclusively at this event, weighs approximately 75 pounds and can be displayed indoors or in a rain-protected outdoor area. 33"H x 10"W x 17"D"

Director Tour

Take your time and explore Hearst Castle in the way you’ve always dreamed! Museum Director Hoyt Fields will unlock the vaults, take you into rooms and buildings not on tour, and share his extensive knowledge of the collections you will see. Invite up to five friends to join you on a weekday for a catered lunch on the terrace at the Castle, a customized tour of La Cuesta

19. Hearst Ranch
Trail Ride

This wonderful opportunity is offered by Margaret and William Randolph Hearst III. Up to four lucky individuals will ride beautiful Arabian horses into Hearst Ranch, followed by a gourmet picnic lunch under the pines. Following the ride, enjoy a tour of the Hearsts’ world-class San Simeon Arabian horse breeding facility. The ride and tour will be led by Mr. Hearst and Bill Flemion, manager of San Simeon Arabians. This special opportunity is available to beginning riders and experienced equestrians, alike.

Escape the heat and experience the magnificent Neptune Pool as Hearst’s guests once did. 21. Private Evening Museum Director Tour and Dinner on the Neptune Terrace
For the first time ever, Museum Director Hoyt Fields will host up to ten people on an after-hours, behind-the-scenes tour of the Castle and a private dinner on the awe-inspiring Neptune terrace overlooking the lighted Neptune Pool. This gourmet, six-course meal will be provided by Brenda Hock of SLO Cooking, with paired wines. You will never forget this experience.

For only the second time ever, we are offering a private night swim in the romantic indoor Roman Pool. The alabaster lamps glow like a string of moons to guide you and your guests in a turquoise and gold-tiled reverie. Enjoy a two-hour private swim among the inspiring statuary, with a professional lifeguard and light refreshments provided.

23. Pergola Picnic
for Ten

Never before open to the public, this little-known area offers breathtaking vistas of the Castle, the Pacific Ocean and the Santa Lucia Mountain Range. Up to ten people will enjoy a catered afternoon picnic. Includes ten passes for any Hearst Castle tour, to be used either before or after you become one of the few
people to visit this unique place.

24. Chair
This one-of-a-kind chair, hand-crafted by Artistry Interior Furnishings of Bend, Oregon, and made exclusively for Friends of Hearst Castle, is based on the design of one of the chairs found in Hearst’s Casa Grande bedroom suite. The fabric has been updated with Pindler and Pindler’s “Ferronerie” from the Hearst Castle Collection. In a cream-on-black design, this luxurious material was inspired by the 15th Century Italian silk cope on display
in Casa del Mar.

25. PCPA
Broadway Package

Two guests will attend the show of their choice at the fabulous PCPA Theaterfest. Package includes a night for two at the Historic Santa Maria Inn, where William Randolph Hearst's guests often stayed on their journeys to and from the Castle. Includes dinner and breakfast in the Garden Room Restaurant.
